In the season of darkness and waiting, I have cried out to you my God; the God of my ancestors and those before them. Do not forsake me in my time of need, Almighty Lord, but lift me from the gloom of this life and make my fields, my life, fruitful again.
I praise your name, as the One whose day will bring forth righteousness and understanding; as whose day will cause the true Light of the world to illuminate our shadows that we might see again, and that our blindness to your truth will fade from our eyes. The broken will be made whole, and the sickness of this world will be healed. I know that the lowly will be lifted up and freed from the snares of hunger and poverty, and that all will share with you at the banquet of your nourishing abundance. And then all voices will sing their praise to your glory, and give thanks to you for the fulfillment of the promises of old.
And so I wait with faithful heart, for the Bethlehem Child; the one of your choosing, whose birth I celebrate, and whose appearance again has been promised.
Do not forsake us, O Lord. Come, Holy Child. Come again, into our hearts and into the gloom of our world.
Amen.
