Daily Prayer

“I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness,
‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’”
as the prophet Isaiah said.

In the midst of frantic holiday preparations, and the constant resounding of commercialism which engulfs me,
Help me to be the voice of one proclaiming,
“Make straight the way of the Lord”

In the midst of a world torn by economic chaos, classism, and distain for the poor,
Help me to be the voice of one proclaiming,
“Make straight the way of the Lord”

In the midst of religious fervor, which threatens to pit neighbor against neighbor,
Help me to be the voice of one proclaiming,
“Make straight the way of the Lord”

In the midst of countless voices crying out for true justice in our world; for mercy and compassion, and for fullness of life,
Help me to be the voice of one proclaiming,
“Make straight the way of the Lord”

O God, I boldly pray that it may be so.

Amen.
